Creative incurs wrath of its users

|

We have not been hearing much good news from this local company lately. In its heydays, its sound cards were the de facto cards to go to for beautiful, realistic sound.

Recent years have seen the company get:
1. spanked by Apply in the MP3 industry
2. delisted from STI
3. have to sell its HQ at international business park

And now, even its most ardent users are being pissed at how they are being treated. Some of Creative's sound cards refused to work with Microsoft Vista properly due to software conflicts even though the products have been advertised as Vista ready. One of the users decided to help out and distributed his version of the drivers such that the sound cards can work without hitch. Guess what, the Vice President of Public Communication decided to scrape his postings off the forum and possibly even legal actions.

What ensue was the barrage of postings from users who are swearing off Creative products and standing to the defense of the guy.

*Update: the forum thread has just appeared on Digg, reddit and slashdot. The Inquirer simply condemned the whole situation. What's Mr Sim gotta do?

Moral of the story

Don't ever mess around with your clients, and always put their interests first. If you try to push your products too hard, your clients will know and possibly put you on their blacklist. Worst case scenario? This info gets spread around their network, and in this internet age, dirty linen almost never gets hidden for long. Remember, the customers' needs always come first.
